Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Based on theoretical and practical units, different methods regarding behavioural physiological research questions in rodents are presented (e.g., oestrous cycle monitoring, blood glucose measurements, measurements of oxygen consumption, body temperature measurements, hormone analyses, behavioural phenotyping, behavioural coding, statistical analyses). Several short data collections are carried out in small groups with subsequent statistical analysis of the data. The results of individual research questions should be summarized in a written scientific report.

Theoretical units on Mondays always from 17:00 – 18:00.

3 Practical unit blocks:
1) Data collection guinea pigs: 06.11.2023 – 09.11.2023
2) Hormone analyses: 13.11.2023 – 16.11.2023
3) Data collection rats: 20.11.2023 – 23.11.2023
Students have to participate on only ONE WHOLE DAY PER BLOCK (individual dates are assigned in the course).

Assessment and permitted materials

Presence and participation in the units (obligatory), homework (3 short written reports), writing of a final report with regard to a topic of choice based on the collected data.
Continuous assessment of course work! (prüfungsimmanente Lehrveranstaltung)
