This course requires active participation in two weeks (2 x 5 days) of field work, in the Nationalpark Donau-Auen. Exact dates will be fixed in the initial meeting.

Note that you are expected to pay the costs of transport from Vienna to Orth/Donau (approx. 100 Euros if using the public bus on 10 days).

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Using butterflies and the flowers they visit as an example, we will apply methods to characterize bipartite networks of biotic interactions, starting from assembling relevant data in the field up to their statistical elaboration.

Assessment and permitted materials

active participation during field work; presentation of results as a scientific seminar talk; writing up the results in style of a publication manuscript; either in teams of two, or individually.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

written final report: 60%; participation in field work: 20%; oral presentation: 20%
