Classes

This course is held in English. Since it will be an online course for all or most of the semester, this means that the slides you will see on Moodle are in (simple) English. If there is an audio part to accompany the slides, that would be in English as well.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is held in English. It begins by introducing basic ecotoxicological concepts and then illustrates marine pollution based on the topics oil, heavy metals, halogenated hydrocarbons, radioactivity, eutrophication, and marine debris; marine fisheries and mariculture are presented as examples of the use and abuse of marine resources.

Assessment and permitted materials

First exam date in late June, second exam date sometime in mid-October 2021. Exam is - if it takes place in person/"Präsenzprüfung") - a mixture of multiple-choice (single choice), true-false and short questions (in English, but answers can be in German). If the exam is an "online" version, then it will involve only questions with written ("essay-type") answers

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The exam has 50 points, you must reach 25 (50%) to pass, the grades 1-4 are divided equally between 25 and 50.

Examination topics

The questions are more or less equally divided according to the topics listed above under "Inhalt"

Reading list

Marine Pollution (5th edition, 2001), R.B. Clark, Oxford University Press, (239pp).
Marine Pollution, Frid & Caswell, Oxford Univ. Press (2017)(268 pp)
The course contents, i.e. a pdf version of the individual PowerPoint presentations, will be placed on Moodle. This pdf version has been expanded with text (explaining, in brief, what I say to the Powerpoint slides) in order to accommodate the fact that the class will probably be held as an online course.
