Aims, contents and method of the course

An overview on the following topics will be given:

1. The main issue in nature conservation: how do we identify and prioritize areas to preserve biodiversity?
2. Systematic Conservation Planning: a scientific approach in conservation planning
3. The decision-support software MARXAN as an example of Systematic Conservation Planning tool
4. How to assess species’ conservation status: the Red Lists criteria and categories
5. A case study to exemplify the prioritization process
6. Conservation Planning for Ecosystem Services: an overview

Written exam: 1.5 h; five open questions
