Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Carnivorous plants take in part of their mineral supply from animal prey. For this aim, they transformed their leaves to traps that are able to attract, catch, retain, digest and absorb animals.
In the frame of this lab course we explore the trapping mechanisms by cinematic techniques, analyse morphology and anatomy of the traps, investigate structure and function of the glands and observe the absorption of digested animal substances. The ecological situation of the plants is discussed and analysed.
Our results are summarized and presented in the frame of a seminar.
