Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture series deals with a general introduction to electron microscopy in life sciences, with an introduction to the techniques of scanning and transmission electron microscopy, as well as accompanying instruments, an introduction to the methods of preparation of biological samples for electron microscopy, and the application of these methods to special biological objects and current topics or projects.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written examination ( dates to be determined)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

This lecture aims at awakening the students' interest in this wide field of biological scientific research possibilities and to show the facilities at our faculty. A guided tour through the Core Facility Cell Imaging and Ultratructure Research is possible. It should also serve as preparatory teaching and as overview for the many practical courses that are offered in our Core Facility for deepening knowledge and practical application of the special techniques: 300218 UE Rasterelektronenmikroskopie - Techniken und Präparationen für Biologen, 300221 UE Transmissionselektronenmikroskopie von Zellen und Geweben- techniken und Präparation, 300306 UE Hands-on Immunolabelling for Light and Electron Microscopy, 300156 UE Advanced techniques of electron microscopy and ultrastructural research, 300104 UE Hands on - Cryo-preparation of biological specimens for ultrastructural studies

Examination topics

For a good understanding of the matter it is essential to be present during the lectures, additional working material will be offered.
