Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course shall introduce to conducting a field study on plant diversity. Work is centred around the topic "Monitoring of plant diversity" and will use sampling sites that are part of an ongoing monitoring scheme in agricultural landscapes of Austria. The task (for groups of two participants) will be to use these sampling sites to compare different sampling methods on their usefulness in monitoring projects. The course will include a introductory lecture on this monitoring project, 3 days of field work, and one day of data analysis and presentation of results.
Assessment and permitted materials
Evaluation will be based on (a) contribution to field work and analysis; (b) oral presentation of results; (c) a "homework", i.e. repeating the workflow learned in the course on an additional sampling site from the project and writing a short report on this "mini-project".
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Knowledge of the Austrian flora is advantegeous, but not required.
