Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Molecular biological and microbiological techniques from the research fields of environmental microbiology and cell biology will be covered in practical and theoretical form. Chosen experimental systems are archaeal model organisms, bacterial symbionts and complex microbial communities. Chosen techniques are: nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, immunostaining, image analysis, Poly Acrylamide Gel Electrophoresis, affinity chromatography, production of bacterial growth curves.
Assessment and permitted materials
Laboratory participation, oral presentation and written protocol.

Since the number of participants is restricted to 16, admission to the course might depend on the qualifications of the students (in particular attendance of lectures and seminars in microbiology and genetics or related fields). A prerequisite is to have passed the Research Topics exam.
