Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This unit provides students with a basal understanding of the evolution of vertebrates from basal fish-like forms to mammals. They will learn the anatomy and phylogeny of key groups of fishes, amphibians, reptiles (including birds), and mammals.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written examination (30 min.) and oral presentation (15 min).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The goal is to provide an introduction to the zoogeography, diversity, evolution and relationships of the vertebrates, and to discuss some current controversies concerning their biology and evolution.
Examination topics
Anatomical aspects will be covered in lectures and practical classes. Current controversies will be analysed based on selected and highlighted literature examples.
