Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course provides an overview introduces basic concepts of molecular evolution, phylogenetic sequence analysis, and phylogenetic treeing methods. This knowledge is applied in practical exercises with online databases, web-based tools for sequence analysis, and software for phylogenetic sequence analyses. The course focuses on ribosomal RNA (rRNA) as molecular marker, but the general principles apply to any molecular marker gene. Participants are also introduced into the taxonomy and diversity of bacteria and archaea.
