Vorbesprechung on Tuesday 01.10.2019 at 11:00 (s.t.!!!) in the seminar room, Department of Cognitive Biology, UZA 1, Biozentrum Althanstraße 14, 1090 Wien.
Regular class time: Tuesdays 10:00 (s.t.!!!) -13:00 in the seminar room of Cognitive Biology [no class Tuesday 21st January].
Exceptional appointments: Poster sessions are on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th January 10:00-13:00, students must attend both sessions.

Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Participants should attend all class appointments, and in small groups design an experiment, analyse data, hand in written assignments, prepare and make an oral and poster presentation of their work, and participate in scientific discussions.

Examination topics
The course comprises a combination of lectures, individual work, and group work/discussion.

The course is developed to strengthen the methodological and analytical skills of the students. We cover all the different phases of scientific research with a specific focus on the field of Cognitive Biology, including: (1) study design, (2) methods in basic ethology, neuroscience and bioacoustics, (3) conducting and interpreting statistics, (4) abstract writing, (5) the process of peer-review, and (6) poster design and presentation skills.
