Weekly meetings: on Mondays from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., Conference room at the Dept. of Anthropology (Room 2.010), UZA 1, Biozentrum Althanstraße 14, 1090 Wien.

Laboratory days and individual meetings by arrangement.

Deadline for the term paper: August 31, 2016.


Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This practical course is directed towards advanced students in Anthropology. Students acquire knowledge on how to derive and investigate a research question, develop suitable questionnaires and behavior catalogues, observe behavior and -- this term for the first time -- conduct genetic analysis (SNPs), followed by statistical analysis and interpretation of the results. Progress will be reported via oral presentations. The course will conclude with a term paper matching the format of an original research article.

Active participation, homework, interim and final presentation, term paper

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

A minimum of 50 points is required for the successful completion of the course. The single components are weighted as follows: regular attendance and active participation (20 points), oral presentations including slides (20 points), term paper (60 points).
