Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This lecture series deals with basic concepts of population and community ecology. Topics include population structures (demographic, genetic, and spatial), regulation of population size, density dependence, top-down vs. bottom-up control, r- and K-selection, temporal dynamics of populations, metapopulation concepts, minimum viable population, Allee effects, patterns and assembly rules in species assemblages.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written test, comprising 10 open questions targetting all topical areas covered, duration: 90 min. Exams will be held in presence only.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
grade 1: 87.5-100% of points that can possibly be achieved in the exam; grade 2: 75-87.5%; grade 3: 62.5-75%; grade 4: 50-62.5%; grade 5: <50%
