Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Conception, history of elaboration and analysis of the rules regulating the use of armed force in internal and international conflict; focus on recent developments (NATO's intervention in Kosovo, Operation "Enduring Freedom" in Afghanistan).

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The main aim of this course is to inquire into the system of norms regulating armed conflicts, including humanitarian law. Especially, the principal justifications for armed intervention will be reviewed (self-defence, ¿humanitarian intervention¿...).

Examination topics

Through the examination of relevant and recent cases of armed conflict, an attempt will be made to assess the validity of the traditional framework of rules concerning the use of armed force.
