Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In the first part of this course, techniques and applications of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are introduced, focusing on flower development, seed surface and structural adaptations. Subsequently, thus obtained structural characters are studied in a phylogenetic context. To this end, DNA-sequencing (Sanger sequencing), basic phylogenetic methods and their application to infer character evolution will be applied. The last part of the course covers population genetics and genome evolution from NGS (next-generation sequencing) data (incl. basic bioinformatics).
