Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course provides information on the identification of Ephemeroptera. Introductory lectures deal with morphology, biology, ecology, sampling, conservation as well as rearing and preparation techniques. The most important literature on the subject is presented and the students have ample opportunity in training their preparation and identification skills. Evaluation: one hour practical exam.
Assessment and permitted materials
Attendance control and final exam (identification of specimens using the provided keys). The exam date will be announced at the start of the course.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Participants are trained in identification skills of Ephemeroptera and are able to use the keys. They have a good overview of the species inventory of the region and know the most important literature on the subject.
Examination topics
Introductory lectures for each taxonomic unit; guided identification work on larval and adult material using special keys and (binocular) microscopes. The keys are distributed at the beginning of the course.
