This lecture continues and expands the information on the botanical aspects of VO 'Einführung in die Planktonökologie'.
The phenology, appearance and importance of algal groups is described and discussed. Seasonality, annual and interannual sequences in a wide variety of fresh-water ecosystems are described. Pattern, processes and dynamics of community assembly are detailed. The concept of 'functional groups' is deduced and explained. Finally, the ecosystem is re-assembled and brought into an applied context.
