Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This special course offers training for identification of branchiopod microcrustaceans (Cladocera: Anomopoda, Ctenopoda & Onychopoda; Leptodorida: Haplopoda) of waterbodies from Europe. It includes theory on morphology and anatomy, biology and ecology, habitat and geographical distribution, economic value, taxonomy and phylogeny of the group. The laboratory work includes observation of living animals and narkotizing, preparation and illustration technics, calculation of biomasse and identification of cladocerans and leptodorids.
Assessment and permitted materials
Exam: Written exam about the biology of this animal group (30 %) and identification of various species at the laboratory (70 %).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
This course offers the possibility to lern the biology of cladocerans and leptodorans. It includes both freshwater and marine species inhabiting continental and coastal waters of Europe. At the end of the course, the participants will be qualified for species identification.
Examination topics
Each unit includes a theorical introduction to the biology of the group and a laboratory part dedicated to learn practical methods of microdisection and taxonomy of the species. The activ participation during the laboratory work and the excursion will be valored.
