Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In the first part, this course gives an introduction to basic topics of nature conservation and environmental protection from the point of view of the Islam. Additionally, comparisons with basic attitudes to these issues in other religions were drawn.
The second part focuses on Egypt: special projects are presented, which simultaneously are also examples of permanent conflict situations between conservation and exploitation of nature resources. The multiple pattern of opposite interests and the multifactorial socio-economical interconnections are shown, and possible solutions in terms of sustainability are discussed.
In a third part, various aspects of nature conservation and environmental protection in other islamic countries (Jordan, Tunisia, Libya) are discussed.
The different issues are partially presented by the two lecturers and partially by the students themselves.
