The aim of this lecture is to introduce basic models and indices for the
analysis of species dynamics and community patterns to all students who want
to become acquainted with data analysis. The presented methods are not
restricted to the aquatic field, but are also applicable in other ecological
disciplines. The topics are discussed theoretically and thereafter, examples
will be calculated at the computers. The course includes the following
topics: growth of population, competition and predator-prey-models,
metapopulations, species-area curves, species-abundance models,
biodiversity, resource utilisation. Examples from literature and from my own
experiences shall help understanding. Basic knowledge of the usage of MS
Excel is desirable.
