Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
We will discuss topical research papers in the field of population genetics, analysing methods, results and their implications, with the aim to understand their significance in a wider context. To provide insights in the role and limitations of mathematical theory in evolutionary biology, the seminar will contrast diverse theoretical and empirical approaches. Questions addressed by these papers include speciation, hybrid zones, metapopulations, sexual selection and coevolution. Focal papers will be selected according to the interests of the participants.
Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment of contributions to the seminar: presentation, discussion.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Knowledge of current topics in population genetic research. Understanding of relations between theoretical and empirical work.
Examination topics
Discussion of scientific papers; student presentations.
