Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The lecture aims at giving a broad overview about bioinformatics methods and applications from the areas of exact string matching, pairwise sequence alignment algorithms, multiple sequence alignment methods, sequence database searching, a short primer about probability on sequences, hidden Markov models (HMMs), molecular structures, phylogeny, high throughput sequencing methods, genome assembly, read mapping, and genome analysis.
Assessment and permitted materials
During the course there are two written tests (multiple choice and open questions) which count 30% each and cover about half the topics of the course, and there are 4 homework assignments, of which the solutions have to be submitted in written form and count 10% each.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
To pass the course one has to obtain at least 50% of the possible weighted sum of points. The obtained percentage of the points determines the actual grade.
Examination topics
Relevant is all content of the lectures and the homework.
