1.Attendance at the introductory meeting for the course (‘Vorbesprechung’): March 14, 11-11:30 a.m.; MFPL 4th floor (room 4.120)
2. Master’s students in A877 'Genetics und Developmental Biology' will be considered preferentially for a place in the course
3. Additional requirements for students who have not completed their bachelor's degree in the bachelor's program Biologie at the University of Vienna in the areas of BMG or BMB: External students who got practical courses (UE) as requirement by the admission to the Master´s program have to complete them in advance (bringa copy of your admission letter and a current transcript to the preliminary meeting).

Aims, contents and method of the course

Language of instruction: English

Focus: Methods and basic principles of developmental biology and neurobiology, with a focus on zebrafish, medaka, and the marine bristle worm Platynereis.

Techniques: microinjection, mutant analysis, transgenesis, RNA detection (in situ hybridization), FACS, RNA quantification (qPCR), microscopic methods

Limited to 12 participants

Assessment and permitted materials

Compulsory attendance; the evaluation consists of different performances: active participation and results obtained (25%), scientific presentation of results and literature (25%), written report (50%); each of the subgrades must have a positive evaluation.
