Aims, contents and method of the course
Special examples of experiments in molecular biology, practical implementation of methods reviewed in the seminar: cloning of genes (including PCR amplification) and expression in E. coli, detection of the protein by western blot analysis. Isolation of a gene, labelling and use in Southern blot analysis.
Assessment and permitted materials
Compulsory attendance; the evaluation consists of different performances: active participation and results obtained, written report, theoretical knowledge including final exam (the percentage of the subgrades will be announced by the course leader); each of the subgrades must have a positive evaluation.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Aims, contents and method of the course
Special examples of experiments in molecular biology, practical implementation of methods reviewed in the seminar using different model organisms:
Preparation of E.coli competent cells, gene cloning (restriction, ligation, transformation) and PCR, yeast transformation and determination of protein-protein interactions using the yeast two hybrid system, genotyping of transgenic plants by PCR, determination of protein expression by SDS-PAGE and Western blotting, promoter reporter assays of transgenic plants, transformation of plant protoplasts, transient transformation of tobacco plants by agroinfiltration, detection of YFP (yellow fluorescent protein) and YFP-fusion proteins in transiently transformed plants by fluorescence microscopy.
