Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course will focus on bioinformatic approaches in metagenomics for the analysis of mixed microbial communities (microbiomes). The aim of the course is to provide the student with the ability to perform metagenomic analyses and importantly be able to interpret these analyses in the wider biological context. Topics that will be covered include community profiling, genome reconstruction from mixed samples, comparative genomics, exploring the uncharacterised hidden microbial diversity in samples and phylogenetics. The course will offer practical exercises as well as a group project to support the lectures and discussions in class.
Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment will be based on a group project and overall examination.
Participants must achieve at least 50 pts. by the end of the course.
Grading:
< 50.0: 5
< 62.5: 4
< 75.0: 3
< 87.5: 2
else: 1

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
There are no strict minimum requirements. But students should have experience in Unix/Linux. A basic understanding of Microbiology is recommended and knowledge of microbial genomics would be advantageous.
Examination topics
Presentation of group project and examination of content presented in the course.
Reading list
Will be provided during the lecture on the elearning platform.
