Aims, contents and method of the course

Aldehydes and ketones: nomenclature, properties, preparation, nucleophilic additions to the carbonyl group, enolisation, aldol reaction and aldol condensation. Carboxylic acids and their derivatives: nomenclature, properties, preparation of acid chlorides, anhydrides, esters, amides and their transformations, addition of organometallic compounds, Claisen condensation, reactions of Coenzyme-A esters, biosynthesis and biodegradation of fatty acids. Amines and other nitrogen-containing compounds: nomenclature, properties, preparation, acylation, alkylation, reactions of aliphatic and aromatic amines with nitrous acid, reactions of diazonium salt. Carbonic acid and its derivatives: phosgene, carbamates, urea. Phosphoric acid: esters, formation and reactions of ATP. Polymers: radical, cationic, anionic and Ziegler-Natta polymerisation, polycondensation and polyaddition. Amino acids, peptides and proteins: proteinogenic amino acids, Ninhydrin reaction, formation of peptide bond, Merrifield synthesis, sequencing of protein, Edman degradation, structure of proteins, biosynthesis of amide bond. Carbohydates and nucleosides: monosaccharides, cyclic hemiacetales, mutarotation, reactions of glucose (esterification, oxidation, reduction, formation of acetonide), disaccharides, polysaccharides, nucleobases, nucleosides, nucleotides.
