Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture imparts knowledge on atomic structure, periodic system, inorganic nomenclature, kinds of linkage (also those of pharmaceutical relevance), isotopes and radioactivity, ions, chemical equilibrium, law of mass action and its applications (pH-value, hydrolysis, buffer, acid-base concept, acidity and basicity, solubility product and its variations and adjustments, catalysis, Nernst distribution, indicators, chemistry of aqueous solutions), complexes, precipitates and its problems and characteristics, deformation, oxidation, reduction, redox systems, oxidation number, principles and methods of separation of inorganic substance mixtures, wet tests and such tests feasible in pharmacies, identification of inorganic substances, analyses according to pharmacopoeias, trace analysis of inorganic compounds, environmental analyses, water analysis, properties of elements and of their (pharmaceutically relevant) compounds, inorganic drugs and poisons.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The objective of this lecture is to provide the basics of general chemistry. At the end of this course the student should be acquainted: with conformities of chemistry, with separation techniques of inorganic substance mixtures, and with inorganic compounds: their qualitative analysis according to methods feasible in pharmacies (identity, purity), their pharmaceutically and toxic (human and environmental) properties.
