The chapter amino acids is divided into several subunits like aliphatic amino acids or aromatic amino acids to name some examples. The attention is focussed on the pharmaceutical relevance.
In addition to that, the chemical and biological impact of peptide hormons (e.g. L-thyroxine, insuline an the pharmaceutical modifications of those substances) and proteins will be taught. In general, special interest lies in the stereochemical properties of all these bio-molecules.
The lipid-subunit contains crucial types of substances like fatty acids, eikasanoids, fats and tensides. According to that, bioorganic properties of lipoids are a subject too. Lipoids are divided into terpenes and steroids. Terpenes are discussed with focus on several carotinoids and terpenoids. Furthermore, the chemical an physico-chemical properties of vitamin A, vitamin E and vitamin K are taught. The chapter of steroids entails the chemical and biological properties of bile acids, sterols, secosteroids, corticoid hormons and steroidglycosides.
