Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Evaluation is based on laboratory work; compulsory attendance.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The objective of the course is to teach the student in experimental techniques used in organic synthesis. This is illustrated by a number of important organic reactions. Practical training is given in this laboratory course.

Program:
Distillation at normal pressure; distillation under reduced pressure; recrystallization; isolation of an organic acid or base, respectively, by extraction.
Eight syntheses: Reactions of carboxylic acids; reactions of carbonyl compounds; Aldol condensation, benzilic acid rearrangement reaction); reductions (sodium borohydride) and oxidation reactions; syntheses of heterocyclic compounds; Grignard-reactions (use of septum and syringe); preparation of drugs (nifedipine, phenytoin, paracetamol, acetylsalicylic acid).
