Aims, contents and method of the course

The course is given in English. Following topics will be highlighted during the course:
- Bacterial cells and chromosomes
- DNA -> RNA -> protein: the basics
- Bacterial genes and mutations
- Bacterial transposons
- Exchange of genetic information in bacteria
- Bacterial gene cloning vectors
- New methods for recombinant DNA assembly and genome engineering
- Molecular analysis of genes and genomes by Next Generation Sequencing
- Bioinformatics: basic tools
- Metabolic engineering principles
- Synthetic Biology principles
- Synthetic regulatory circuits in bacteria and their applications

Assessment and permitted materials

Exam (multiple choice) online (Moodle). The students can select one of the two dates offered.
-Date 1: Friday 02.12.2022 (9:00 h)
-Date 2: Monday 20.02.2023 (9:00 h)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements: Knowledge of Biochemistry and Microbiology basic courses.
The minimum requirements to pass the course is getting 60% of the points in the exam.
