Aims, contents and method of the course
The second part of the course is devoted to the legal and political aspects of the institutions most relevant to European security (UN, OSCE, NATO, EU), in particular their adaptation to the new political situation in Europe after the end of the East-West conflict by assuming new functions; the consequences of "9/11" will be emphasised in this context.
Assessment and permitted materials
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
provide students with a better understanding of the legal and political dimensions of contemporary security issues and a theoretical background enabling them to assess problems of security policy on their own in the future
Examination topics
presentations by the instructor, discussion in class, discussion meetings with American students at the Institute of European Studies in Vienna
