Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The topics of the course include general principles and novel findings in the fields of applied and integrative physiology on the subject of sports nutrition. The main focus is on the molecular effects of carbohydrates, fat, protein, antioxidants and phytochemicals in response to acute exercise, during recovery, and during adaptation to endurance and strength training in performance as well as in health settings. The course is strongly led by the own experience of, and research by the course leader and further consists of several interdisciplinary excursions including exercise physiology, exercise immunology, redox biology, and translational physiology.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment criteria include the commitment during the course (8%), handouts to be created (24%), and the presentation of studies in the area (in German) including the ability for discussing the topic (68%). For completing the course 60% of the assessment criteria need to be reached.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Target group of the course are Master students. The students will interpret, present and discuss current, international scientific literature. By doing so, they will be able to apply and deepen existing physiological knowledge by means of application-oriented topics in the area.

Examination topics

Lecture material and selected scientific literature, the latter of which the students present within the frame of the seminars (similar as in 'journal clubs').

Reading list

Copies of the presentation slides, research papers (some of which will be provided).
