Due to the coronavirus, teaching will take place digitally, on site, and as a combination of both (hybrid teaching) in the upcoming winter semester 2020/21. It is expected that COVID-19 will continue to spread increasingly in the coming weeks. It is hard to foresee whether the spread of COVID-19 will continue to increase in the next few weeks. Thus, digital formats currently provide the greatest security, based on the experience gained during the summer semester 2020.
Due to the availability of appropriate tools for e-Learning at the University of Vienna, the lectures on LV 330030 "Applied Genetics and Molecularbiology" will be given online via Moodle (using Blackboard Collaborate) (for dates and access to the sessions see Moodle).
Please inquire about how to use Blackboard Collaborate at https://wiki.univie.ac.at/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=101484831. The sessions will be recorded and will be available as an mp4 file in the download area until further notice. The conditions of the "Copyright information" remain valid.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives
Students will deepen their knowledge in genetics and molecular biology. This will be supported on a case-by-case basis via independent compilation of pertinent literature (textbooks or original articles). This will enable them to assess the subjects of genetics and molecular biology in the context of nutritional sciences.

Contents
Applied genetics

DNA replication
Telomeres and effects of dietary patterns
Effect of nutrition on epigenetic mechanisms

Applied molecular biology
Molecular mechanisms of tumor pathogenesis and impact of food/nutrients

Methods
Power point presentations will be available via LMS
Journal articles and reviews on current topics of Applied Genetics and Molecular Biology after prior announcement
