Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The topics of the course include general principles and novel findings in the fields of applied and integrative physiology on the subject of sports nutrition and exercise metabolism. A particular focus is on the molecular effects of carbohydrates, fat, protein, antioxidants and phytochemicals in response to acute exercise, during recovery as well as during adaptation to endurance and strength training. The course is strongly led by the own experience of and research by the course lecturer and further consists of several interdisciplinary excursions including molecular exercise physiology, exercise immunology, redox biology and translational physiology.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment criteria include the commitment during the course (8%), handouts to be created (24%), and the presentation of studies in the area (in German) including the ability for discussing the topic (68%). For completing the course 60% of the assessment criteria need to be reached.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Target group of the course are master students. The students will interpret, present and discuss current, international scientific literature. By doing so, they will be able to apply and deepen existing physiological knowledge of by means of application-oriented topics in the area.

Examination topics

Interactive lectures and seminars within the frame of journal clubs.

Reading list

Print-outs for the lectures, research articles (in English; will be provided partly).
