Aims, contents and method of the course
Based on the GILT process, contents of this course are issues in technical documentation and localisation as well as locale management. In addition, this course addresses topics such as comprehensibility and usability of localised products and of technical documentation. Based on the examples of website localisation, software localisation and localisation of technical documentation, methods and tools that are used in localisation are explained.The main objective of this course is to impart basic knowledge of technical documentation and localisation. Students are able to apply these theoretical foundations in localisation projects. They are able to evaluate the comprehensibility and translatability of technical documentation. Students are able to identify, categorise and solve problems in the area of localisation in a team setting. This knowledge provides the basis for planning, implementing and evaluating localisation projects.Methods include interactive lectures, individual activities and group activities, collaborative work, project work (apart from classes) and independent research.
Assessment and permitted materials
In addition to written exams (15 %) and project work (30 %), contributions during classes and submission of written contributions on the e-learning platform (55 %) are requirements for a successful completion of the course.Students can use any material for the completion of the assignments and exams.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
To complete the course successfully, students must attend the course regularly.It is recommended to attend this course only after the courses taught in the first two semesters according to the curriculum, especially the course VO Technology-based Media Translation, Localization, Technical Communication.
Examination topics
The topics for the written exams are the contents addressed in the course.
