Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

- Discussion and development of reading/writing strategies
- Discussion and development of strategies/tools to enhance reading comprehension (e.g., highlighting, notes, excerpts, diagrams/maps)
- Specific grammar topics relevant to written communication (as necessary)

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment will be based on the following:
- Participation in class and in online activities
- Completion of written assignments (and semester portfolio)
- 2 tests

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The objectives of this course are as follows:
- to help students improve their reading skills, research skills, text comprehension, language and writing skills;
- to provide students with an opportunity to reflect on and apply reading comprehension strategies;
- to raise students' awareness of writing processes;
- to help students apply their language knowledge and writing know-how appropriately in practice.

Examination topics

Students will achieve the course objectives by:
- analyzing and discussing authentic written texts;
- paraphrasing/summarizing texts;
- producing original written texts of various types;
- rewriting/adapting texts to suit different situations/purposes;
- completing a variety of research tasks/exercises.
