Getting started in consecutive interpreting (German-English, English-German) after successful completion of "Basiskompetenz Dolmetschen". Time permitting, we will also look at whispered interpretation.

Assessment and permitted materials

Continuous checks on progress

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students will acquire and enhance interpreting skills, familiarise themselves with various situations and contexts in which interpretation is needed, learnt to further increase their word power and develop strategies required for preparation. They will seek to deepen their skills as "messengers between cultures" in oral communicatoon. If possible, one excursion per semester will be organised.

Examination topics

Students will start practising consecutive interpreting in various contexts. Some work will be text-based, some in the form of role play (mock negotiations). Prior knowledge of note-taking technique is indispensible.
