Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is meant for students with previous knowledge in consecutive interpretation (German/English, English/German) after successful completion of "Basiskompetenz Dolmetschen" and Ms. Jantscher-Karlhuber's course. Active listening and note-taking will continue to be crucial. Time and group level permitting, we will work in more difficult practice-oriented situations (speeches for certain occasions, political speeches, mock guided tours etc.) We may also make time for an excursion.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students will enhance their interpreting skills, practise situations in which interpretation is needed, continue to expand their vocabulary and strategies for preparation. They will seek to improve their skills as "messengers between cultures" in oral communication.

Examination topics

The course will progressively build consecutive interpretation capabilities, partly based on texts (sight translation), partly using audio and video recordings. Students are also encouraged to reflect on their own performance and the performance of others in peer review stages.
