Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Formerly Simultaneous G-E III, i.e. only for students who have completed their Bachelor Studies and what used to be called "Simultan I" and "SimultanII". Interpreting from German into English, general and technical or political presentations and speeches using my recordings and the link to the European Parliament. Background documents on the relevant topics will sometimes be provided. Each student has to give a 10 minute presentation in German that will be interpreted by the other students. The student giving the presentation has to e-mail a glossary to the others no later than the night before.
Assessment and permitted materials
Based on class work and an oral exam at the end of the term.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Further improve the students' command of the English language, and prepare them for the various aspects of simultaneous interpreting.
Examination topics
Students will be given written texts either a week before class to prepare at home, or at the beginning of the class to practice preparing a text just before it has to be interpreted. The students' presentations will be interpreted without a written text. The person giving the class will listen to each individual booth and then ask the students to come back into the class-room to listen to her comments about each student's interpretation and consider possible improvements.
Reading list
Hängt von den jeweiligen Texten ab, und wird allenfalls bekanntgegeben.
