Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Analysis of legal proceedings and contracts (originals taken from various Portuguese-and German-speaking areas). Translation of the documents according to specifications given, using various methods of research and relevant parallel literature.
Assessment and permitted materials
Active cooperation during the semester (including on term paper and/or presentation) - 70%, final test (30%)
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Increase knowledge of relevant terminology, and of the most important legal and economic institutions in Portuguese speaking countries. Prepare for practical work as a translator. (Pt-German, German-Pt)
Examination topics
After having analysed a text with a view to its cultural background (legal system, issuing government agency) and pointing out possible translational difficulties, a translation has to be drafted and handed in.
