Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

We will review what grammar is/can be (grammar theory), and we will explore selected grammatical, syntactic & stylistic features. Students are welcome to suggest topics; examples from previous terms would be: tenses, conditionals, affixes, gerunds & infinitives, modal verbs, reported speech, relative clauses, the passive, ...

Brief lectures; interactive exercises in class; additional exercises on moodle.

The language of instruction is English.

This class will be held online using a combination of:
- live sessions via BB Collaborate & other (GDPR-compliant) platforms
- short pre-recorded lectures with self-study guides & exercises
- worksheets

Additionally, I offer optional live sessions to answer questions arising from independent study exercises, and I am happy to hold virtual office hours.

Assessment and permitted materials

Mid-term test: 40%*
End-of-term test: 40%*
Written assignments, incl. one essay: 20%

*In order to pass the class, students have to achieve a passing grade on at least one of the tests.
