Aims, contents and method of the course

Las clases de esta asignatura serán eminentemente prácticas. Se seguirá una metodología inductiva en la que el alumno va afianzando sus conocimientos previos y mejorando su competencia lingüística. Se trabajará en clase con una amplia gama de textos y otro tipo de materiales; a lo largo del semestre se ampliará gradualmente el abanico temático. Las actividades dirigidas y supervisadas incluirán ejercicios de comprensión, expresión oral, expresión oral mediante debates, role-plays, simulaciones, capacidad de análisis, síntesis y abstracción, desarrollo de habilidades comunicativas, ejercicios de entonación, pronunciación y lectura, etc. Las actividades en casa incluirán tareas de comprensión oral (utilizando recursos audiovisuales actuales) y consolidación y ampliación de léxico.

Assessment and permitted materials

Immanent course grading: grade based on the semester performance. Regular attendance is prerequisite for assessing the students performance. Continuous active in-class participation and oral exams during the semester as well as an oral final exam in the last week of the semester. There will be an attendance list in this course.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Achievement of oral communication as well as oral text competence based on simple to medium-difficult texts of various genres from Spanish-speaking countries. By considering various topics, the course offers the possibility to make cultural, idiomatic, and lexicalic comparisons.

Examination topics

Preparation of and work with texts and certain topics chosen in part by the teacher, in part by the students. Acquisition of presentation techniques, moderation of discussions etc. Short presentations, discussions, ad hoc-presentations and the like will improve elocution and presentation skills as well as oral language competence. A good knowledge of the Spanish language is prerequisite.
