Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will be given the opportunity tor critically examine prevailing translation theories and will be encouraged to aquaint themselves with approaches to translation from other disciplines and spheres of experience. We will discuss the adequacy of various theories as descriptions and/or explanations of professional and everyday translation with reference to selected texts in a number of language combinations.
By discussing theories in relation to the texts they translate, it is hoped that students will review their own approaches to translation theory and thus thus also review and develop their practical translation methods.

Assessment and permitted materials
