Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Course objectives: developing reading comprehension strategies and reading-based writing skills. Students acquire text analysis methods that enable them to understand and discuss texts as communicative events. They improve the skills of reading comprehension and text-based writing, with a focus on exploring different types of meaning, organizing texts, and integrating sources.Methods include reading and writing activities (individual, pair, and group work), online activities, home assignments in reading comprehension and text production.
Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment will be based on participation in online activities (20%), mid-term test (20%), final test (20%), and writing assignments (40%). Students are allowed to use monolingual dictionaries during the tests.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
An advanced level of both oral and written English is required.
Attendance is mandatory (two absences are allowed).
Grading scale:
90-100%: 1
80-89%: 2
70-79%: 3
60-69%: 4
< 60%: 5 (fail)
Students have to attain a passing score (60% or more) on at least one of the tests to be able to pass the course.

Examination topics
Both tests will be based on the text types discussed and practiced in online activities and in the written assignments.
