Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture/class investigates the different aspects of texts that are relevant in determining what type of text we are dealing with. In the course of this, we shall discuss different language conventions and explore the bounds of English geographically, historically, socially, and for different specialised areas.
Please note that this lecture/class is designed for advanced students.

Assessment and permitted materials

One or two tests and the quality of the work submitted / presented.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Learn to investigate and reproduce the characteristics of different sorts of text in terms of register, style, format, and content.

Examination topics

This is a lecture/class, it will therefore be taught partly in lectures, partly in student activities. Tasks will be set requiring research, difficult reading, writing texts for different purposes, either individually or in small groups; students will also make presentations in class. This class will be accompanied by a tutorial which students will be expected to attend.
