Aims, contents and method of the course

Content and goals: Practical translation course. In this course you will work in both directions (German/Spanish and vice versa) with texts from different fields of economics and business studies, from economic reports such as annual accounts to new economic theories, company organisation, etc.

Methodology and corpus: The specific corpus of texts will be chosen during the first hour of class, trying to cover a wide range of texts which are representative of professional practice. In terms of methodology, the source texts and translations will be commented on in class and students will be encouraged to discuss and actively participate in class both on the translation aspects and on the different aspects of economic theory.

Assessment and permitted materials

Continuous assessment on the basis of weekly individual and group work during class.
Weekly written exercises
2 mid-term exams and final exam

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Compulsory attendance (at least 75% of the lessons).
Course with immanent examination character, i.e. active participation in class, submission of assignments that complement the work done in class; 2 intermediate examinations and one final examination. Type of examination: written translation exercises in both directions. Monolingual and bilingual dictionaries are allowed.
55% of the work (weekly exercises and exams) must be passed for a positive ressult.
Keys of the performances according to the recommendation of the SPL:
Participation, compulsory attendance, homework, contributions in class: 20 points.
I mid-term exam (E-D): 20 points
II mid-term exam (D-E): 20 points
Final exam (E-D+D-E): 40
