Aims, contents and method of the course
Poems for children
Assessment and permitted materials
Translated text (including written comments on problems and solutions); final exam; short report on event; participation in discussions.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Understand the challenge of translating poems for children; strategies for analyzing the source text and planning the target text; write creatively in German; get to know the German-language book market for this section of the reading public and learn about the situation of professional translators of literature for children.
Examination topics
Some poems will be translated jointly in class; others will be translated by the students (teams of 2) at home and discussed and revised in class; compulsory attendance of a literary event on Oct 19.
