Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Developing reading comprehension strategies and reading-based writing skills; Acquiring textual analysis methods that enable students to understand and discuss texts as communicative events; Mastering techniques of dealing with unfamiliar texts/vocabulary; Acquiring different reading strategies: skimming, scanning, reading for gist etc.
Student-tailored approach: Students determine the topics and content of reading materials in a survey at the course start.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation in class and in online activities (10%), mid-term test (30%), final test (30%), and writing assignments (30%). Students are allowed to use monolingual dictionaries in exams. No electronic devices are allowed in exams.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In order to attain a pass grade, students must accomplish at least 60% of the total score.
Attendance is mandatory (student can miss max.2 classes, provided they supply a valid excuse).

Examination topics

In-class and at-home reading and writing activities (individual, pair, and group work), online activities, home assignments in reading comprehension and text production.
