Aims, contents and method of the course

Translation of a non-fiction book on design. Deyan Sudjic: The Language of Things. Design, Luxury, Fashion, Art. How We Are Seduced by the Objects Around Us. London: Penguin 2009.

Assessment and permitted materials

Translated text; revision of a colleague's translation; exam; participation in discussions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Strategies for opening up a particular field of knowledge; research and terminology; translation and revision; getting to know the German-language book market.

Examination topics

Parts of the book will be jointly translated in class; students (teams of 2) will research and translate sections of the book at home, the ranslations will then be discussed in class and revised by colleagues.
