Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Translated text (including written comments on problems and solutions); revision of a colleague's work; final exam; short report on event; participation in discussions.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Understand the challenge of translating literary texts for children and young readers; strategies for analyzing the source text and planning the target text; write creatively in German; get to know the German-language book market for this section of the reading public and learn about the situation of professional translators of literature for young readers.
Examination topics
Students (teams of 2) will translate sections of the books and revise their colleagues' work; discussions in class; compulsory attendance of a literary event on Oct 19.
